COUGAR FOOTBALL

2015 Wilson Conference Champions

A TRADITION OF WINNING!

The Cougar Football Program had humble beginings.  It was starter by then 1st-year teacher Mark Renaud!  It was the 2nd year of Cardinal Carter's existence.  The school opened in 1987 and started a Junior Football Program the following September.  The Early stages of Cougar Football experienced many "growing pains"!  The first season saw the team not score a single point as the young Cougars were taught many lessons by the established schools.  The team experienced their first win 2 years later at the Senior Football level!  From those humble beginnings a program developed as the school added teaching staff and more importantly more football coaches.  The Cougars won their 1st championship in 1993 by defeating the Walkerville Tartans 15-6 in the Arnott Conference Championship!

From that point on the Cougar Football Program grew in numbers as well as stature.  The Cougars experienced several winning seasons between that first championship and the next one in 2005.  In 2005 the Cougars took it to a new level, winning the Wilson Conference Championship! The team was quarterbacked by a grade 10 student named Kyle Quinlan,  who would go on to win a Vanier Cup and a Hec Creighton Award as the Top University Football Player in Canada!  The program produced many players who went on to play college football!  In more recent times the program has produced a Junior Miller Conference Championship as well as Senior SWOSSAA "AA" Titles in both 2013 & 2014. The program has experienced a true metamorphasis from those meager begginings!
